| i'm moving....to here...
just felt like i needed something a little bit different...and a little bit not xanga. =)
bye bye! | | |
| everyone has people (who aren't relatives or relations) that they love. someone who they have known for years and has stuck by them through laughter, growing pains, and more late night phone calls than i can count....this weekend i was lucky enough to be able to celebrate the marriage of one of those people for me. someone who i honestly can't imagine what my life would be like if she wasn't in it. someone who is my cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter's day. while it was a whirl-wind trip, which resulted in a shocking amount of jet-lag, it was so worth it to attend michelle's wedding. it was a beautiful ceremony and reception. michelle was gorgeous (of course!) and so serene. she pledged her love to andy. there were some chuckles and some tears (from the bride, from erica, from me...and i'm sure others that i couldn't see). it was a happy day, and one that i'm glad that i was able to share with her....because, honestly, not going kind of wasn't an option.
i've known michelle since we were freshmen in high school. and i knew when first became friends - pretty much the first week we were in school - that there was something special about her. like all high school girls, we used to talk about the future - jobs, where we would live, boys, and just life in general. seeing her get married was evidence of how far we have come from those days, and how possible it is to find the things we want in life. one of my best friends is a couple now...she's a misses...one-half of a duo. sometimes it's hard to believe that it was so many years ago that we shared our hopes and dreams for the future....well, that future is now. we've come so far, but it really feels like just yesterday. i love her so much, and i know she and andy will have a wonderful life together.
...so photos of the wedding....okay, i'm going to post some....but there are some things that i just didn't capture and couldn't capture on camera - like their first dance (seriously, best first dance i have ever seen!). i can't capture the happiness, sentiment, or sheer love that was in this room for these two people, such are the limitations of photography.
back of michelle's dress as she reached the alter. yes, it is quite lovely.
saying "i do".
exchanging the rings...you girls can't see...but she's a looker! andy has good taste (obviously). =)
paying respects to michelle's parents.

cutting of the cake
it was also michelle's parents' birthday (they share the same bday). she surprised them with a birthday cake. very cute!
on the dance floor...hehe...that's erica on the right btw.
there is definitely something to be said for friends. i love these girls!

in other news:::
congratulations to the newest dr. leong!....and as of next weekend, the new dr. michelle park (and dr. andrew park)!
5 days left in paris...not a happy occasion.
i really like - "high school musical" and "devil wears prada". meryl streep is so fabulous in that movie. every time i watch it, it makes me laugh. oh yeah...and "high school musical"...who didn't giggle through that entire movie! it is so corny and fun.
tomorrow we visit pere lachaise cemetery, where many notables were laid to rest including - oscar wilde, delacroix, bizet, chopin, edith piaf, proust, and jim morrison. | | |
| there's always that inevitable question mark that is the FUTURE. ever since we were kids the question is always, "what do you want to be when you grow up?" well....i've grown up, and have chosen one of the most hated professions of modern america......i wanna be a lawyer. haha...but that's hardly news at this point...the inevitable questions of "where do you want to go to law school?" and "what type of law do you want to practice?" always come up in conversation, always secondary to "what to you want to be..."
well...i'm movin'! which i guess is hardly true since i haven't lived at home since 1999, and i haven't lived in the OC since 2004. but home is still there, and i'll be going to boston, MA. i will be a northeastern graduate of 2010 unless by some miracle i get accepted to the last CA school that i have not heard from yet, and that is highly unlikely - so i'm not holding my breath. it is also possible that i might not graduate from northeastern per say...but i do plan to be in boston for the next three years.
you know how you get gut feelings? i thought was i was going to be moving to NYC for months now. but somewhere in my gut, i felt like that wasn't where i was supposed to be (like when i got the invite to bangladesh). i just couldn't imagine myself being there - even though living in tribeca would have been absolutely fabulous and let's face it...new york city is new york city. it's like the paris of europe. you just can't beat it. it's amazing!! but usually people go to grad school in an area where they hope to end up (unless you're a med student)...and i just felt like i wasn't supposed to be in NYC...and here it is...may...and i'm not going moving to NYC, but to boston - which is incidentally where i have wanted to be for the past three years. it's pretty amazing.
i feel lucky and blessed to always have the opportunities to do the things that i want to do and be in the places where i want to be. it's fantastic! --------------
incidentally, in an unrelated but kinda related note - I <3 paris! i'm a little sad to be leaving here in a couple of weeks. this place is amazing! i know that i will come back to paris and france at some point in the future...but i don't know if i'll ever get to live here for an extended period of time. you can't come to paris for a few days and then just take off. it deserves your full attention for months at a time. i love it here. i love paris, and i love the french countryside. yeah, the political situation (which remains to be seen) and the economic situation are hardly ideal...but you can almost block it all out when you're strolling along the champs elysees, eating a falafel along the seine, or just hanging out in a random garden with hundreds of other parisians.
don't ever think you don't have the chance to come here. find a way (and believe me, there are lots of ways)! it'll be worth it. | | |
| my friends and i took a long weekend since we had monday and tuesday off earlier this week to commemorate the end of world war II. we took the train down to the south of france friday afternoon. biarritz is a cool town which is great for surfing. when we planned the trip, we were hoping for a weekend of sunshine and sitting on the beach....however with some strange bit of luck, we got some clouds and rain. however, it did clear up for a bit of sunshine while we were there. we soaked up the sun the best that we could and had a very relaxing few days before taking an overnight train to paris late monday night. i pretty much slept all of tuesday since i didn't sleep much on the train. i hate overnight trains. i can never sleep on them. anyways....the trip in photos....
our lodging:::
kellie found this place called "biarritz camping" on the internet. it was a little far away from the center of town, but it was super cheap and in this great picturesque area. we stayed in a two bedroom trailer. the trailer also had a small living area, kitchen, and it's own toilet and shower. the place had just opened for the season, so we were actually one of the very first groups to arrive.
our kitchen and the tiny room i shared with mallery.
sign in the camping picnic area. hehe....foodsniffs. =)
kellie demonstrating things we did for fun:
some scenery in biarritz:
the next day we walked around and attempted to sit in the sun. but there wasn't a whole lot of sun to sit in. it was windy!
even the ginormous dog thinks so!
we sat on the beach in our underwear and jeans...it's like wearing a bikini - only not. =)
we were enjoying the precious bit of sun (there WAS sun...you just can't see it in the photos) when guess what we saw rolling in....
...yeah....kinda scary...so we high-tailed it back to the trailer. and then the clouds proceeded to roll on by (without raining at all!)....since we were already back at the trailer, we just put on our suits and sat on our little patio with a bottle of wine, music, and a few good books. twas quite excellent when the sun came out.
the day we left, we went exploring in town. it was grey again outside. no biggie, since we weren't going to sit on the beach anyways. this photo reminds me of cultural moments with alex in ukraine. hehe...
regardless of the rain - biarritz is actually quite picturesque. the coastline stretches quite a bit since there are three small towns right next to each other. the landscape reminds me of the coastal communities in orange county....except at a smaller scale and less affluent.

...it looks like it's out of a gothic novel!
found some mini whomping willows on our town jaunt
....and this cool dial that tells you where you are in relation to the rest of the world. kellie's finger is pointing to new york city.
we had lunch at this great brasserie. if we lived in biarritz, we would totally go to this place all the time. the waitresses were so nice and fun. they loved practicing their english! we didn't have the heart to tell them that we could read the menu just fine without them. haha...
food was amazing! mallery, kellie, and i ordered mussels (which they have 5 different kinds) and kristel got pawns.
my lunch is the second photo. so yummy!
after lunch we visited the aquarium in town. it's not very large, but it's a cute place for families to bring their kids to. the following is a kristel kempin montage at the aquarium. i actually have more pictures of her doing silly things, but didn't post all of them.
kristel laughing after a guy walked by and made kissing noises at her while she was facing the orca.
beware of sharks!
after that, we had a dinner of paella...and hopped on the overnight train back to paris.
....i look like i'm 15 in this photo.
bye biarritz....shame that vacation is over. =(
additional photos of biarritz, my trip into champagne, and mom & dad's visit can be found on facebook. ------------------
other things not related to biarritz:::
- our floor is pretty empty. the dance program and the boston university programs have finished and the kids have left. i think there are like 7 of us on our floor. haha....i like it though. it's quiet. soon the new people will come and take over. all i am asking is that they are good kitchen people. we had a nice kitchen relationship with the other people.
- confession: i have watched "high school musical" about 3 times in the last week. that movie is so incredibly corny and silly....i just wind up giggling through the entire thing! but i love it. i don't get it! something about that movie is just so darn catchy. "get your head in the game!" =)
- i haven't sent out any postcards since i've been in paris. i'm a bad friend.
- i'm 99% sure of where i am going to law school....but that's another entry, on another day. =)
- going to normandy on saturday.
- the new trailer for the harry potter movie looks amazing!

| photo of the day, taken at musee d'orsay:
every time i see it, or even think about this picture - i start to crack up.
--------------------------
so i was checking out people.com today, which i do probably about 2 or 3 times a month, and i found this little article about these charity bags/purses. being a bag-freak....i clicked on the link and this is what came up:
do these look familiar or what?! they are made out of the EXACT same material from the bags that every single grandma in eastern europe uses. they have been using those bags for decades, and now a woman has turned the all-purpose baba bag into an up-scale purse?! it just seems so incredibly WRONG to me. unlike these bags, baba bags in ukraine retail for about $1. so save your money and don't buy these bags for $100, buy them for a buck in ukraine. somethings were just never meant to be used in trendy products. wow.
